FAQs for Adventure Retreats
I have absolutely no camping or hiking experience. Is this retreat really for me?
Yes, 100%! This retreat was designed specifically for you. Our curriculum starts from the very beginning, and our instructors are experts at creating a supportive, judgment-free environment. You will be surrounded by other beginners, and no question is considered too basic.
I'm thinking of coming by myself. Is that common?
Absolutely. We find that about half of our participants come on their own. It's a wonderful and safe way to meet new, like-minded people, and the group activities are designed to foster a friendly, welcoming community atmosphere from the very start.
What is the general age range of participants?
Our retreats attract a fantastic mix of people. While open to all adults (18+), our typical participant age ranges from the late 20s to the early 60s. The common thread is a curiosity for the outdoors, not a certain age.
What will we do if it rains?
We believe there's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate gear! We will hike in light to moderate rain, as this is a valuable skill to learn. We have indoor space available for our workshops if the weather is severe (like thunderstorms or high winds). A rain jacket and waterproof shoes are essential packing items.
How physically fit do I need to be?
If you can comfortably walk for an hour around your neighborhood, you can do this retreat. Our guided hike is approximately 3 miles long on a well-maintained trail with some gentle hills. The pace is slow, educational, and focused on learning, not speed. We take plenty of breaks.
I'm worried I'll be the slowest hiker and hold the group back. Should I be concerned?
Not at all. This is a common fear, and we can assure you it won't be an issue. This is an educational experience, not a race. Our guides are skilled at managing different paces, and the focus is on enjoying the journey together. The person in the back has the best view!
What about wildlife like bears, snakes, or ticks?
This is a great question. While encounters with large animals are very rare, a key part of our curriculum is teaching you how to be safe and "critter-aware" in the outdoors. We will cover tick prevention, how to properly store food, and what to do if you encounter wildlife. Knowledge is the best tool for confidence.
What are the cabins and bathrooms like?
You'll be staying in comfortable, shared, bunk-style cabins. They are rustic but clean and weatherproof. Our facility has modern bathrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, ensuring you can refresh and relax after a day of learning.
I have a food allergy/dietary restriction. Can you accommodate me?
Yes. Our dining hall can accommodate most common dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.). Please be sure to note any and all restrictions on your registration form so we can plan accordingly with the kitchen staff.
Do I need to cook any of my own food?
No. Five delicious, filling meals are included in your registration fee, from dinner on Friday to breakfast on Sunday. All you need to bring are your favorite personal snacks for our hike on Saturday.
I don't own any expensive hiking gear. What do I absolutely need to buy?
You don't need to spend a lot of money! The most important items are a comfortable pair of sturdy, closed-toe shoes (hiking shoes or trail runners are great), a small backpack (a school backpack will work fine), and a rain jacket. We will provide a detailed, easy-to-follow packing list upon registration that focuses on affordable basics.
Do I need to bring my own bedding?
Yes. Please bring your own sleeping bag or a set of twin-size sheets and a blanket, along with a pillow and a towel.
What exactly is included in the registration fee?
The fee is all-inclusive and covers your lodging for two nights, five meals, all workshop instruction and materials, and guided hiking. The only things not included are your transportation to the retreat and your personal trail snacks.
What is your cancellation policy?
You may cancel your booking at any time. If such cancellation is made more than 45 days before the start of the retreat, a full refund will occur. If such cancellation is made less than 45 days before the start of the retreat, you will receive a refund of any amount paid over the $150.00 nonrefundable deposit.
Is there cell service or Wi-Fi available?
Cell service at the facility can be unreliable and spotty, which we see as a feature! We encourage you to embrace this as a rare opportunity to disconnect from screens and connect with nature and your fellow participants. We will provide an emergency contact number to all participants to share with their families. Wi-Fi is available at certain locations at the facility.

If you cancel more than 45 days before the retreat, you will receive a 100% refund.
